Same-Day Wasp Nest Treatment in Broxtone – What to Expect
A wasp nest treated on the day you ring is possible, and the call itself decides how smoothly it goes, so here is what we ask and why each answer matters.
It starts with a phone call, not a form
When wasps are going in and out of a gap above your door or under the roof edge, the quickest way to get a technician moving is to speak to a person. Ring 0115 937 5117 and explain what you can see. Same-day service is offered, and the earlier in the day you call, the more room there is to fit you in, though we can't promise the same day for every single call.
The online booking form on the contact page works too, and is handy if you are at work and can't talk. For something that is bothering you right now, the phone is simpler because the questions below can be answered in a couple of minutes.
Nothing happens until you say yes. The price is explained and confirmed with you before anyone sets off, and no work is carried out without your agreement.
The questions we ask, and why
Expect a short conversation. It is not an interview, but each answer helps the technician arrive prepared.
- Where are the wasps going in and out? A gap under the eaves, a hole in a wall, a shed, a bush or a hole in the lawn all need a slightly different approach.
- Roughly how high is it? A first-floor soffit means ladders, and it helps to know before the van is loaded.
- Is it a house, a flat, a shop or a workplace? We cover domestic and commercial properties.
- Is anyone in the household allergic to wasp stings? Tell us at booking so we can take it into account.
- Can the technician reach the spot, for example through a side gate or a neighbour's side of a fence?
You do not need to know the species or the size of the nest. If you are not certain whether you are looking at wasps, say so and describe the insects; wasps are slim, smooth and yellow and black, quite different from a round, furry bumblebee.
What the price is on the day
Wasp nest treatment is a fixed £95 per nest. There is no call-out charge, so you are not paying extra for the technician to drive out, and there is no surcharge for it being a same-day booking.
If there is a second nest on the same property, for example one in the roof and another in a garden wall, the additional nest is £35. The number is confirmed on the phone before the visit, which means there is nothing to negotiate on the doorstep.
Between the call and the knock on the door
Once the visit is arranged, the best use of your time is to make the spot easy to deal with and to stay clear of it.
- Keep children and pets indoors, and away from the side of the house where the wasps are active.
- Close windows and doors nearest the entrance hole. A few wasps wandering indoors is common when a nest is close.
- Do not block the hole, hit the nest, or try a home remedy. Disturbed wasps become defensive and a blocked exit can push them to find another way out, sometimes into the house.
- Note what you have seen: where the flight line is, what time of day it is busiest, anything the technician should know about access.
If a wasp does sting someone, wash the area, take out the sting if you can see it, and apply something cold. Swelling of the face, lips or throat, wheezing or difficulty breathing, dizziness or a widespread rash are signs of a serious reaction and mean calling 999.
Treatment, then what you will notice
The technician is trained and the work is fully insured. On arrival they will look at the nest position, confirm it with you and treat it. You do not need to stand near it, and you should not.
Afterwards, it is normal to see some wasps still around the spot for a short time, because foraging wasps return to where the nest was. Keep the area quiet and give it time rather than going to look. If you would like the empty nest taken down, ask when you book, so the technician can tell you what is possible.
A late-season nest can look quite dramatic by August, when a colony can hold thousands of wasps, which is another reason to ring sooner rather than wait for it to grow.
Why calling early helps, and what to avoid
Wasp activity builds as the day warms up, and by the afternoon the flight line at an active nest can be busy. A call in the morning gives us the most flexibility to fit a visit in on the same day. That is a practical point rather than a promise: some days are busier than others, and the person on the phone will tell you honestly what is possible.
There are also a few things that make the job harder, and they are worth knowing before you ring.
- Do not stuff the entrance hole with rags or filler. It will not stop the wasps, and the colony will look for another way out.
- Do not knock the nest down or pull at it. A disturbed nest can send out a lot of defensive wasps very quickly.
- Do not use a ladder to go and look. If you can see the flight line from a window or the ground, that is enough information.
- Do not keep checking from close by. Each visit raises the chance of a sting, and watching from a distance tells us as much.
A calm approach saves time. Most nests can be dealt with in a single visit, and the more clearly you can describe where the wasps are going, the smoother it is.
